This engaging event will bring together researchers from clinical and medical disciplines with those from arts and humanities backgrounds to build connections and explore the innovative contributions that the arts and humanities can make to cross-disciplinary collaborative research on Global Public Health. This engaging event will bring together researchers from clinical and medical disciplines with those from arts and humanities backgrounds to build connections and explore the innovative contributions that the arts and humanities can make to cross-disciplinary collaborative research on Global Public Health. At the meeting, participants will be able to:
- understand the aims of the AHRC-MRC Global Public Health initiative
- network and explore possible collaborations to support potential future partnership applications under the call
- speak to Research Council staff about possible applications.
Keynote speakers will include:
- Professor Andrew Thompson, Chief Executive, Arts & Humanities Research Council
- Professor Peter Piot, Chair, Director and Professor of Global Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London
Who is the event for?
The event is open to academic researchers with expertise in:
- Medical research and health interventions in developing countries
- Any arts and humanities disciplines which have the potential to contribute to and drive Global Public Health research
Examples of areas that AHRC expertise might focus on are; informing human behaviours; local knowledges and histories; cultural dynamics; community engagement and public trust in science and medicine.
These examples ate illustrative only and are not intended to be comprehensive. Arts and Humanities researchers who may not have previously engaged directly with Medical and health research are encouraged to attend
The event is designed to bring together those who might be interested in the opportunity to initiate collaborations that lead to partnership awards and future research bids.

The event provides a chance to:
- find out about the AHRC-MRC Global Public Health initiative to be launched in February 2017
- discuss with experts the challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinary working
- put questions about the funding call direct to funders
- network with potential collaborators from other discipline areas.
