She graduated in Sociology and Social Policy from the University of Glasgow in 1996 and gained an MSc in Health Services and Public Health Research from the University of Aberdeen in 1997. Since joining the Unit, she has been involved with two UK multi-centre RCTs facilitating patient recruitment, along with a study exploring decision-making in data monitoring and interim analysis of trials. In 2003 Sharon was awared a research training fellowship from CSO (Chief Scientist Office, Scottish Executive Health Department). The fellowship was part of her PhD exploring patients' perspectives on participation in randomised controlled trials. Sharon was awarded her PhD in 2007 and since then has been working on a NIHR SDO funded project exploring the links between organisational culture change and domains of patient safety and staff well-being as well as an MRC platform study aimed at developing the intervention and outcome components of a proposed randomised controlled trial of a national screening programme for open angle glaucoma.
