Joy Eldridge joined the Unit in August 2011 as Trial Manager on the eTHoS (either Traditional Haemorrhoidopexy or Stapled haemorrhoidopexy) trial. The aim of eTHoS is to establish the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of stapled haemorrhoidopexy (SH) compared with traditional excisional haemorrhoidectomy (TH).

In late 1998 Joy started her career in commercial clinical research at Amgen in Cambridge, moving on to Merck, Sharp & Dohme in Hoddesdon in 2001. Roles encompassed clinical data management and clinical trials supplies management before a move into clinical quality assurance in 2002 with GW Pharma – a UK based pharmaceutical company developing cannabis extracts for therapeutic application in multiple sclerosis and cancer pain.
