Current Research

Clare is currently involved in an HTA funded project evaluating the relative clinical benefit and cost-effectiveness of laparoscopic and tele-robotic methods for surgical removal of the prostate in men with localised prostate cancer. The study aims to determine whether laparoscopic or robotic prostatectomy gives best value to users and providers of treatment for localised prostate cancer within the United Kingdom National Health Service.  The specific objectives of the study are to:

1.   Summarise data concerning the clinical effectiveness and safety of each procedure

2.   Estimate likely need for the procedure together with current service provision

3.   Estimate capital and on-going costs associated with each procedure across a relevant time horizon

4.   Determine which procedure is most likely to be cost-effective for the United Kingdom National Health Service

5.   To identify areas where more research is required to decrease uncertainty surrounding the findings
