Biography

Cathryn Glazener graduated in Medicine at Dundee University in 1979 and joined the Unit in 1988 as a Health Services Research Training Fellow funded by the Wellcome Trust. After basic training in obstetrics and gynaecology, she undertook research in infertility in Bristol, being awarded an MD for her thesis on management of unexplained infertility in 1984. She completed her postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Aberdeen, gaining membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1986 and admitted as FRCOG in 2003.  She was promoted to Reader in Health Services Research in 2006, and a Personal Chair in 2009. Within her fellowship at HSRU, she undertook an assessment of postnatal care, culminating in her PhD in 1999, focusing on postnatal issues such as maternal morbidity, infant health, and postnatal depression and adaptation. This work led to her involvement in a number of related randomised trials in incontinence, neonatology and postnatal support. She helped to set up the Cochrane Incontinence Review Group, of which she is now a Joint Co-ordinating Editor and a reviewer. She is also the Chief Investigator on a number of large multi-centre randomised controlled trials in pelvic floor dysfunction. Her current research interests are centred on pelvic floor dysfunction, including urinary and faecal incontinence, prolapse and enuresis.
