Surveillance for Ocular Hypertension

 BACK

Summary

This is a collaborative study led by HSRU in collaboration with Aberdeen, Birmingham, Oxford, London, Rotterdam, Dunfermline and Nottingham and funded by the National Institute for Health Research, Health Technology Assessment Programme. The purpose is to determine whether monitoring for people with raised intraocular pressure for signs of glaucoma is required, and if so how often testing should be offered to get the best balance of effectiveness (e.g. cases detected, blindness prevented) and efficiency, i.e. balancing the costs of monitoring with the benefits to ensure the best use of health care resources.

This project proposes to use data, both from existing research and routine data collected in hospital eye clinics, with a variety of research methods including systematic reviews of the literature, expert panels, surveys of consumers, and statistical and economic modelling.
