The title of this workshop is: Understanding, appraising and reporting systematic reviews that use individual participant data (IPD).

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, February 24th in room 115 (Health Sciences Building) from 12.45.  The workshop will be run by Professor Lesley Stewart (http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/crd/staff/stewart.htm) and her colleague Mark Simmonds (http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/crd/staff/simmonds.html) from University of York.

Professor Stewart has been a Director of Centre of Review Dissemination since 2006. She has spent her career working in evidence synthesis, previously leading the MRC Clinical Trials Unit meta-analysis programme.  The workshop will introduce and promote better understanding of the individual participant data (IPD) approach to systematic review and meta-analysis.

Lesley’s research interests are in the conduct and methodological development of systematic reviews, particularly individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis. With colleagues in Cambridge and Oxford she helped establish the methodology and framework for IPD reviews. She has completed many such reviews in cancer. Most recently she completed an IPD review and methodological exploration of industry trial data for the use of bone morphogenetic protein in spinal fusion. She was a founding member of the Cochrane Collaboration and has co-convened the IPD Meta-analysis Methods Group since inception. She currently chairs the PRISMA-IPD Steering Group which is developing guidelines for the reporting of IPD systematic reviews and meta-analyses. She was one of the first NIHR Senior Investigators.  Lesley also has a long-standing interest in research transparency and data sharing. At the MRC she was responsible for launching the first clinical trials register made openly available to the public. At CRD she has overseen the development of PROSPERO, an international prospective register of systematic reviews launched in 2011. This interest is also reflected in her involvement in the development of the international systematic reviews data repository (SRDR) at Brown University. She is currently a member of the SRDR Governance Board.  Lesley is a member of the NICE Highly Specialised Technology Committee. She is Co-Editor in Chief of the BMC journal Systematic Reviews and is currently President Elect of the International Society for Research Synthesis Methods.
