What is Development?

Development is any activity which helps us be more effective and learn.  Attending a formal training course is only one type of development, others include: 

  • Induction
  • Learning on the job
  • Shadowing a more experienced colleague
  • Job exchange
  • Reading a book or article
  • Attending meetings
  • Attending conferences and seminars
  • Coaching
  • Mentoring
  • Participating in a learning set
  • Further professional education (including postgraduate studies, degree courses etc)
