Points Based System

In April 2008 the UK Border Agency introduced a new Points Based System as part of a major shake-up to the immigration processes in the UK.� The Points Based System has replaced over 80 existing routes to work and study in the UK with 5 separate tiers categorising the various ways of entering the UK:�

Tier 1 � Highly Skilled Worker
Tier 2 � Skilled Worker
Tier 3 � Low Skilled Workers
Tier 4 � Students
Tier 5 � Temporary Workers covering workers such as Sportsmen and Performers
