About HR
Human Resources is responsible for providing a comprehensive and co-ordinated personnel service to the University community, consistent with employment legislation and best practice.
We comprise of a mix of professional and support staff, each having responsibilities for a different College/Section. Matters dealt with for each staff category are wide ranging, but include:
- conditions of employment
- discipline/grievance matters
- employment law
- industrial relations
- management/employee information and general advice
- promotion/grading
- staff development and training
- and staffing policies and procedures.
In addition, a significant part of our work involves recruitment and selection and all related administration. This section handles upwards of 40 advertised posts at any one time. All post vacancies are notified to Human Resources are automatically advertised internally on notice boards and on our jobs website (please see our pages on Jobs and Recruitment).
The Staffing and Development Committee has responsibility for overseeing the formulation of policies and procedures on personnel-related matters and co-ordinates the consultative processes with Campus Trades Unions. The sub-committee which reports to the Staffing and Development Committee is the Partnership and Negitiating Consultative Committee (PNCC) (formally the Joint Negotiating and Consultative Committee (JNCC) and the Support Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC)).
