Buildings of Scotland

The Buildings of Scotland project is part of a national enterprise to provide a readable account of all the significant architecture in the United Kingdom. This survey was begun in England by Sir Nicklaus Pevsner in 1951 and extended to Scotland in 1979. So far, more than 80 volumes have appeared, with 11 Scotland. The Aberdeen University project aims to complete the final two volumes of the series: North Aberdeenshire and Moray; and Aberdeen City and South Aberdeenshire. The series is published by Yale University Press, with support form the Mellon Foundation for British Art.

These books are being written by Dr David Walker, Joseph Sharples and Dr Matthew Woodworth . The project is managed by Professor Jane Geddes in the History of Art Department, Charles O’Brien (Yale UP editor) and Ian Riches (National Trust for Scotland).

Publication of the books, by Yale University Press is anticipated in 2014-2015.
