Undergraduate Study
Erasmus Exchanges
The overall aim of ERASMUS is to help improve the quality and relevance of education by enhancing co-operation between universities of the European Union.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students at Aberdeen can benefit from the University's ERASMUS programme, either by studying at a university in another European country, or by participating in courses given by visiting lecturers. ERASMUS exchange students gain valuable insights into the academic work, life and culture of another European country, as well as improving their language skills.
Exchanges are for one semester or the full academic year. You can choose from more than a dozen countries and universities with which the History Department has links.

Language, costs, and timing:
- Some universities teach at least some courses in English, though you are expected to make some effort to learn the language(s) of the country in which you are studying, or to improve your existing knowledge of the language(s) of that country
- EU/EEA students are eligible for a grant
- please note that this usually does cover some additional costs you will occur, but not general living expenses
- you may go on an exchange in either your second or your third year
- please think carefully about when you wish to apply: during your second year the emphasis might be more on your living abroad experience (though you also need to earn 60 ECTS credits for the year), whilst in third year your marks from abroad will count towards your final degree
