Theme Pump-Priming Initiatives - Call for Proposals
The Pathways to a Healthy Life Theme will make available early stage pump priming grants to support larger grant applications and/or high impact publications.
In order to help catalyse new interdisciplinary research activities between existing staff in the University, the Theme will make available early stage pump priming grants to support larger grant applications and/or high impact publications.
The small grants would cover the costs of staff (up to a maximum of £5000 per grant*) or summer studentships (up to a maximum of £1000 per studentship**) to, for example, assess the viability of hypotheses to support a larger grant application or get research projects ready for publication. Staff may also wish to apply for small grants to cover the costs of use of University (core) analytical services and equipment (up to a maximum of £1000 per grant) to, for example, gather pilot data or demonstrate feasibility of techniques.
*As an indication, £5K would cover staff costs of an RF grade 6 full time for 2 months.
**At present, several summer studentship schemes are in operation within CLSM – e.g. HOTSTART, Aberdeen Summer Research Student Initiative, Nuffield. Students can be offered between £150 – 200 per week, which can be paid through Finance on a monthly basis in arrears. Summer studentships are not part of their main studies.
Procedure
We are pleased to invite applications for staff grants or summer studentships to the Pathways to a Healthy Life research theme.
