Past Ceremonies and Lists

The University of Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s great institutions. With over five hundred years of history and achievement behind us, we are also one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom.

Aberdeen graduands are joining a distinguished global family, following in the paths of some of the world's greatest thinkers and achievers in all areas of arts, humanities, science, technology and medicine.

Graduation ceremonies take place in summer and autumn in the Elphinstone Hall, at the heart of the beautiful historic King’s College in Old Aberdeen.

The Elphinstone Hall is a spacious and attractive oak-panelled Great Hall, crowned by a magnificent pine ceiling in the Gothic style. Designed by A Marshall Mackenzie, it was built in 1931 to replace Bishop Elphinstone's original Great Hall which was demolished in 1870 to make way for King’s College Library. The style of the Hall replicates the late medieval Scottish Gothic style and is in perfect harmony with the nearby King's College Chapel and the medieval charm of Old Aberdeen.

Our ceremonies are full of fascinating tradition, reminding us of our great history and our close links with the civic community of Aberdeen. Music performed by our talented music students is an important feature of all ceremonies, as is our tradition of conferring our degrees in Latin.

Whether you are a student preparing to graduate and needing information on what to do, how, and when -  or a proud parent keen to make the most of your visit to our wonderful campus and city - you will find all you need to know on these pages.

Congratulations - and enjoy your Graduation Day !
