Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer, you can use Gift Aid to make your donation go further by telling HMRevenue and Customs to add tax already paid to your donation. It doesn't cost you anything more, but could increase the value of your gift by a third. For example:

  • The Development Trust will reclaim 28p of tax on every £1 you gave up to 5 April 2008.
  • The Development Trust will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 you gave on or after 6 April 2008.
  • The Government will pay to the University of Aberdeen Development Trust an additional 3p on every £1 you gave between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011. This transitional relief does not affect your personal tax position.
  • If you pay income tax at the higher rate, you must include all your Gift Aid donations in your Self Assessment tax return in order to receive the tax relief you are entitled to.
