Volunteering & Community Giving

“We are proud to be one of the most northerly institutions in the world and embrace our role as a regional university contributing to the wider community.”

Professor Neva Haites OBE, Vice-Principal for Development.

The University of Aberdeen strives to contribute to its wider community and collaboratively find the solutions to global problems.

Over the years the University has made many pioneering discoveries including the first clinical use of MRI scanning over 30 years ago. More recently, University research has developed a unique treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and continues to search for the cure to this and many other diseases.

Volunteer and community fundraising can provide significant support for all our areas of medical research as well as for new facilities such as our world-class Aquatics Centre.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a disease or an illness such as cancer, osteoporosis, MS or Alzheimer’s then we have a research programme taking place that you may wish to support.  Or if you wish to contribute towards facilities such as our new Aquatics Centre which will provide a great many community activities, there are many ways you can do so.

If you are thinking of sky-diving, running up Kilimanjaro or simply organising a fun night out with friends, then why not do so in aid of the University of Aberdeen Development Trust.  Recent events organised by volunteer fundraisers have included a golf club dance which raised over £4,000 for MS research and a Northern Soul music night which raised almost £1,200 for breast cancer research.

We also have existing facilities with the following three online giving sites:-

It’s really easy to raise money by creating an online fundraising page so you can collect donations for any sponsored event or appeal.  You can personalise your page with a photo and message and then your friends and family can make a donation through your page from anywhere in the world.
