Philanthropy and the support of generations of graduates, friends, companies and organisations has played an important role in the growth of the University of Aberdeen, dating back to 1497 when King James IV endowed the first Chair of Medicine in the English-speaking world at Aberdeen.
This philanthropic ethos is as strong today as it was then and was taken forward vigorously through the Sixth Century Campaign, which ran until 2010.
