Dr Findlay Walker is a medical graduate of the university. After graduation (in 1967) and clinical training, Dr. Walker worked in general practice for 4 years, before joining the pharmaceutical industry in the USA. He spent most of his career with Merck working on the development of antihypertensive drugs and lipid-lowering agents until he took early retirement from there in 1999.
Two years later he was asked to join the US Development Division of Sankyo, a medium-sized Japanese company, then expanding its US presence. He was Vice President of Medical Affairs in their US head office for 3 years before becoming Managing Director for European Development in their (now Daiichi Sankyo) London office from 2007 until his retirement in September 2010.
He and his wife Yvonne have now returned to the US in retirement, where their two older sons and grandchildren live. Their daughter Claire is presently in clinical training in Aberdeen where she graduated MBChB in 2010.
