As part of a proposed AHRC project focusing on ‘The Locations of Culture in European Urban Environments’, and within the framework of the burgeoning Visual Culture programme at the University of Aberdeen, we would like to make potential candidates aware of the above PhD project.
Taking an explicitly interdisciplinary approach, this PhD will investigate the relationship between artistic production and processes of urban regeneration and gentrification in post-unification Berlin. It is anticipated that, after an initial period of preparation in Aberdeen, the student would conduct research in Berlin into the city’s cultural institutions as well as building on the contacts with artists and writers that the supervisors already possess.
It is anticipated that the prospective candidate would have a relevant undergraduate degree in German, Sociology, Art History or a related subject, and have sufficient command of German to engage in the research in Berlin.
Funding is available from the College of Arts and Social Sciences' Graduate School.
