The General Council was established by the Universities (Scotland) Act 1858. Graduates of the University of Aberdeen and certain members of University staff are automatically members of the General Council. Further information is available in the section About the General Council.
As a member of the General Council you have right to:
- Review and comment to the University Court on all questions affecting the well-being and prosperity of the University;
- Elect the University's Chancellor;
- Elect four General Council Assessors to serve on the University Court;
- Elect 21 members of the Business Committee, which manages the affairs of the General Council.
Please explore the web site to learn more about the General Council and its activities.
The General Council holds two statutory meetings annually, one in May and one in December. Any member of the General Council may attend.
The Business Committee of the General Council is keen to increase awareness of and participation at General Council meetings and it is hoped by combining these meetings with other University events, such as the May Festival and the Christmas Graduate lunch that more members of the General Council will wish to attend.
Further information on these meetings and the vast range of alumni events, including reunions, which take place all around the world can be found on the events section of the Alumni Relations website.
