About the Lecture Series
From Ancient Athens to Old Aberdeen: artists and archaeologists, travellers and tourists in the nineteenth century
In this series Professor Mary Beard, a leading scholar of Classics, explores the changing engagement with classical archaeology and art of different social groups and classes of nineteenth century society.
Mary Beard is Professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Newnham College, Cambridge, and of the Royal Society of Arts.
The 2009 Geddes-Harrower lecture series 'From Ancient Athens to Old Aberdeen: artists and archaeologists, travellers and tourists' will bring a modern perspective to this subject of classical art and antiquities.
