Recognizing the need within an academic setting to encourage a dialogue between film practitioners and those who study film, the Film and Visual Culture programme together with the Office of External Affairs organize the Director's Cut, a high profile series of conversations with leading and innovative filmmakers and broadcasters open to students, staff and members of the public. Now in its fourth season, the series has attracted national interest and featured speakers including Sir David Attenborough, cinema legend Nicolas Roeg, screenwriter/producer Allan Shiach, documentary director John Akomfrah, Norwegian director of the movie Aberdeen (2000) Hans Petter Moland, feature film and documentary director Pawel Pawlikowski, documentary director Jane Treays and others. Film students have an opportunity to engage with the speakers and pose questions about their work and distinctive styles of filmmaking. The events are held in the University's two top venues, King's Conference Centre and the Arts Lecture Theatre, followed by a reception. We have an exciting series of talks being planned for 2012-13, and as events are confirmed they are added to the site.

Webcasts of the events are featured on the site, and excerpts are placed on Youtube. Listen to the BBC Movie Cafe interview with Raul Ruiz and Dr. Alan Marcus on the launch of the series. Visit the Press room for news coverage of Director's Cut events.
