Postgraduate students, visiting academic staff and undergraduate students are invited to attend our Film and Visual Culture conferences and symposia. 

In November and December 2011, Film and Visual Culture collaborated with staff and students from the University's Music department in Shadow Play, a series of silent film and sound experiments.

Rethinking Complicity and Resistence: the relationship between Visual Arts and Politics, an AHRC-funded postgraduate conference was held in October 2009. 

The Arab Middle East Film Festival, Cruel Weather, was held in October - November 2009, and included multiple events, workshops and screenings.

Beyond the Politics of Identity, an AHRC-funded postgraduate conference,was held in June 2009. 

The Tartan Lens, a special colloquium on issues of Scottish national identity in the visual arts organized by the Film and Visual Culture Department and the History of Art Department at King's College and the Aberdeen Art Gallery, was held in 2009. 

The Scottish Consortium for Film and Visual Studies also held a symposium in 2009 on the theme of Within the Frame: integrating film practice and theory, funded by a grant from the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.

In 2008, we were pleased to be involved with the Centre for Modern Thought in organizing the international Recoded conference on the theme of 'Landscapes and politics of new media'.
