This Fairtrade Fortnight the University of Aberdeen
was delighted to be among the partners for a major Fairtrade event hosted by
Robert Gordon University on Tuesday, 2 March 2010. Themed ‘The Big Swap’, this was an excellent
opportunity to hear first hand from two Palestinian Fairtrade producers about
the positive impact your Fairtrade purchases make. We also heard from
local schools about their ‘Big Swap’ to Fairtrade and from the Scottish
Fairtrade Forum about Scotland’s progress towards Fairtrade nation status. With
sponsorship from the Co-operative a selection of locally available Fairtrade
products were provided. Other key partners in the event were Aberdeen College
and the Aberdeen Third World Centre. The event was open to all. |

By buying Fairtrade products means consumers have the power,
through the choices they make, to have a positive impact on the lives of
producers around the world. The FAIRTRADE Mark is an independent consumer label which
appears on products as a guarantee that disadvantaged producers are getting a
better deal. Visit www.abdn.ac.uk/fairtrade for
more details.

Swapping your usual stuff for
Fairtrade stuff is a brilliantly small step to making the world a fairer
place. It means that through the stuff you buy you get to show your support
for developing world producers. If you’re a swapping novice
then let’s start with the stuff that we all pop in our baskets every week.
The basics like tea, coffee, bananas, chocolate, rice and sugar. And then go
a few steps further. Look for spices, fruit juices, shower gel, nuts, cotton
wool, ice cream or herbal teas. |

Imagine our tea supporting
nation without it's beloved cuppa. No elevenses, no afternoonses, no excuse
for a good gossip. Over 15 million people in developing countries rely on our
epic tea supping! |
