Admission Requirements
It is essential that applicants have already pre-arranged for their £30,000 trainees fees and personal subsistence to be fully funded before making an application.
Our minimum entry requirement for this programme is a UK Honours degree (or an honours degree from a non-UK institution which is judged by the University to be of equivalent worth) in geology (or a closely related subject within the geosciences) and will normally be at upper second class BSc level (2.1).
Applicants with slightly lower qualifications (e.g. a UK equivalent lower second (2:2) class honours degree) may be considered if they can demonstrate they have 3, or more, years of professional experience judged by the University to be of direct relevance to the programme.
Most exploHUB trainees will have had some experience of the industry, but this is not absolutely necessary.
If your first language is not English, it is important that your proficiency in English is good in order for you to study successfully at the University of Aberdeen . Without this ability you will find great difficulty in understanding lectures and producing written work. Even if you have been educated in the medium of English you must meet our English Language requirements. These are located at www.abdn.ac.uk/sras/international/english.shtml. Applicants for exploHUB are required to meet the 'postgraduate standard' english language requirements. If you are in doubt about your proficiency in English, contact the British Council office or its equivalent in your country.
We anticipate that the pool of exploHUB trainees will have a wide range of nationalities, cultures, academic and industrial backgrounds, skills and geoscience expertise.
How to Apply
It is important when submitting an application that you ensure you have completed all the necessary sections and enclosed all the relevant documentation to ensure that your application can be processed as quickly as possible.
The programme runs from January to October. Prospective exploHUB trainees who require a visa to study in the UK are advised to apply as early in the year as possible to secure a place. Applications received after the end of October from prospective trainees who need to apply for a visa to study in the UK will not be able to be processed in time for the following January entry. However, they may be considered for entry the following year as appropriate.
To apply you must submit:
- A completed Application Form
- Full details of your academic achievements to date, including copies of degree certificates
- Proof of proficiency in English (see above)
- Academic References. Applicants from a UK institution are not required to supply references. Applicants with a first degree from outwith the UK are required to submit one reference only.
