About

exploHUB is a new training centre that focuses on hydrocarbon exploration. It is a joint industry / academia training initiative that provides a unique exploration training environment to better prepare exploration geoscientists for the challenge of discovering the Earth's remaining hydrocarbon resources. Skilled exploration geoscientists are the main deliverable. exploHUB's focus is on people and on training.

exploHUB is not simply just another post-graduate degree course. The amount of traditional classroom teaching will be far less than a post-graduate degree and to gain entry to exploHUB, trainees must be able to demonstrate that they have appropriate education, typically a BSc, MSc or PhD in geoscience, and/or several years experience.

Exploration Team 2011exploHUB's trainees are supported by state-of-the-art industry standard technology and guided by experienced mentors from both industry and academia. They are are participating in active exploration and learning by doing.  The exploHUB working and learning environment simulates a small exploration company environment rather than a classroom.

The 9 month programme will lead to a professional qualification: Postgraduate Diploma in Hydrocarbon Exploration.

As leaders in exploration thought and processes, exploHUB aims to critically challenge old exploration paradigms, develop new play concepts and design innovative workflows to identify subtle traps as we train the next generation of explorationist.

exploHUB's training activities will benefit all organisations involved in hydrocarbon exploration including: national oil companies, majors, independents, new entrants and service and data providers.

As an integral part of the Department of Geology and Petroleum Geology and the School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen, trainees will interact with both academics and industrialists in active exploration, collaborative projects, and technology transfer.
