The Anthropology Society will be showing 'Blood Rising'. Followed by a talk from the film's subject and presenter, artist Brian Maguire

Over 1,400 women have been murdered in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, since 1994, in an ongoing spate of violence known as the feminocidio. Dublin-born painter Brian Maguire uses his portraits of feminocidio victims to strike at global public consciousness, while offering their families an intimate memoir of the wives, mothers and daughters they have lost. ‘Blood Rising’, directed by Mark McLoughlin, follows Maguire as he uncovers the stories behind the killings, revealing chilling links between these family tragedies and the current world order. The film offers a chance to reflect on the displaced violence that underlies the technologies of daily life, in addition to the power of art to heal, revive, awaken, and transform.
