Universities Week Student Curator's Talk - Victorian Antiquarianism
-

This is a past event

Following the opening of the MLitt Museum Studies students' exhibition 'Victorian Time: The Spirit of the Age', the lunchtime talks will elaborate on various themes and objects found within.

As part of a series of lunchtime talks held in King's Museum MLitt student, Agnese Tomasella, provides a free talk on the Victorian interest in Classical antiquities. The interest in antiquities and travel during the Victorian Era, was influenced by the idea of 'Empire' – taken from Ancient Rome and Grecian culture – and the artistic taste of the time reflects this attitude. This talk will take a look at Victorian ladies who travelled to Sicily to admire Greek and Roman ruins and discover an island thought to be "wild".
