A free lecture by Lee Young of the Griffith Institute, Oxford, organised by the Egyptology Scotland, as part of the King's Museum lecture series

Annie Quibell (nee Pirie), born and raised in Aberdeen, started her life in Egypt as an archaeological artist (see illustration to right) working with Flinders Petrie, but went on to earn the title of Egyptologist in her own right. Annie worked at various sites including Saqqara, the Ramesseum, El Kab and Hierakonpolis and Lee hopes that by telling her story she will be able to show a little of how it was to live and work in Egypt at the turn of the 19th/20th century and the first part of the 20th century. She will talk about the people and places of these ‘Glory Years’ of excavation in Egypt and in doing so she will look at her work with paintings and photos of the time.
