Aspirin, guinea pigs and horseradish- What did clinical trials ever do for us?

This is a past event

Clinical trials have come a long way since James Lind compared lemons and horseradish as treatments for scurvy while onboard the Salisbury in 1747. For a start, there are lots more of them and the media offers us a daily diet of promising treatments and wonder drugs. But is this all marvellous news, or just hot air? This talk will cover the history of trials, how they are designed, what they mean for our health and provide top tips for how to decide whether that ‘Miracle cure!’ headline is worth getting excited about.

2013 will be the 20th Anniversary for TechFest in September and an ambitious programme of activities have been planned! Events will take place across the University Campus, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Click here  to view University of Aberdeen highlights and download the full programme.
