SISTER is an Edinburgh Film Festival pre-release exclusive and is co-presented with Take One Action - the UK's global action cinema project.
Special guests include:
Lack of transport, communication, education and investment in healthcare mean that developing countries like Ethiopia, Cambodia and Haiti have higher than average maternal mortality rates. With tenderness, incredible access and a real-life cast of heroes, Sister tells the unheard story of three health workers from these countries, exploring how they and their colleagues find hope and meaning against all the odds. The film follows them through home visits, deliveries and moments of quiet reflection.
A powerful and beautifully-shot examination of how women across the world are effected by underinvestment in basic public services: Sister nonetheless inspires through the heroism of the health workers on the front line and the simplicity and lyricism of its call to arms.Simon Bateson, Festival Director
