The Chelsea Belladonna explores the extraordinary life of Aberdeenshire-born botanical illustrator Elizabeth Blackwell.

Square Peg Productions, a Yorkshire-based theatre company, have this year created an outdoor promenade production, based on the life of the 18th-century creator of A Curious Herbal, a rare copy of which is currently on display in the exhibition. Join Angela Cairns, Director of Square Peg Productions, as she unveils the fascinating life of a local heroine of botanical history.

The Special Collections Centre at the Sir Duncan Rice Library hosts Pharmacopeia - an exhibition featuring rare and fascinating printed and manuscript material that demonstrates some of the earliest recorded interpretations of the natural sciences - a history of health.

Illustrated and annotated, the documents explore the study of the medicinal qualities of plants in the treatment of disease, making links with contemporary scientific research and practice at the University of Aberdeen including cutting edge examples from the Marine Biodiscovery Centre as well the Kosterlitz Centre for Therapeutics.

The event is free, but booking is recommended. Contact the Special Collections Centre, E: scc.events@abdn.ac.uk or T: 01224 273049
