Come along to a range of activities led by the University of Aberdeen at this year's Edinburgh Science Festival.

The University of Aberdeen will be hosting several events at this year's Edinburgh International Science Festival. The festival is the longest established and still one of the UK's largest annual science festivals.  Included in this year's programme are:-

The deep sea is often thought of as a lifeless, barren frontier, but a recent revolution in exploratory technologies has given us unprecedented access to the oceans. In this talk, Dr Alan Jamieson of the University's Oceanlab will present video footage and images of the rarest, strangest and most beautiful animals in the ocean, including the deepest fish ever found.

A dynamic exposition of rarely seen scientific demonstrations inspired by the great Victorian show-and-tell events of the past. A range of demonstrations featuring high voltage electricity, a bed of nails, a pathway of glass and a hydrogen bazooka will interweave with an interactive narrative involving audience volunteers.

Thursday 21 and Friday 22 April

'Food Lab' at the Real Life Science StudioDr Sue Bird, Ou Ou, Esme Ronken, Beatrice Sell and Pat Bain Venue: John Hope gateway, The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Free admission is by drop-in, (ages 5 upwards)

Colourful, analytical and fun!  With a `thinking’ and a ‘doing’ zone, find out what’s in some foods and drinks and rise to the famous spaghetti tower challenge. The activities will run throughout the day and admission is free, no booking required. Hosted by the Rowett Institute for Nutrition and Health as part of the Botanics's family activity days.

Saturday April 9 (for 8 weeks) Atomise at Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh An event to celebrate International Year of Chemistry and featuring a Wall of Fame including research profile and imagery supplied by Professor Marcel Jaspars of the University's Marine Biodiscovery Centre.
