How do you build a satellite and launch it into space? How can satellites "up there" provide universal Internet access "down here"? Part of National Science and Engineering Week.

This entertaining and timely event celebrates the National Science and Engineering Week theme of communication, and marks the recent launch of two exciting Enterprise and Culture research projects – Satellite Internet Rural Access (SIRA) and Digital Advanced Rural Testbed (DART). These are being championed by the dot.rural Digital Economy research hub at the University of Aberdeen. dot.rural’s Professor Gorry Fairhurst introduces leading experts from the space and satellite industries, talking us through the big challenges and even bigger solutions!

This event is free but places must be reserved.

Speakers include Dr John Ashworth (Astrium Ltd),  Mr Paul Febvre (Satellite System Architect, Inmarsat Ltd), Mr Graham Peters (Director, Avanti Consulting, Avanti Communications Ltd) and Dr Nick Race (School of Computing and Communications, Lancaster University).  Short talks from the guest speakers will be followed by an audience discussion.  Displays in the foyer with information about the current satellite and communications projects being undertaken by the dot.rural team will be available to look at from 6.30pm before the talks commence.
