Café Scientifique expands with the Café Controversial series dealing with topics that tend to polarise public opinion. The University of Aberdeen in partnership with Satrosphere Science Centre host a brand new Café season from September – December. There are a range of topics such as cannabis, nuclear power and choosing the sex of a baby.

Genetic biology has advanced so that a child's genetic gender can be preselected in the test tube. What has made this possible and can we reconcile the ethics with what some parents consider an invaluable right to choose?
