Patrick Manson and the Scottish Encounter with Tropical Disease

Patrick Manson, a son of Oldmeldrum, is today recognised as 'The Father of Tropical Medicine'.

Patrick Manson was born in Oldmeldrum and started studying at the University of Aberdeen 150 years ago. He became a key figure in the history of parasitology through major discoveries in tropical diseases. Professor Michael Barrett from University of Glasgow will speak about the impact of Manson and his successors. Come and hear about present day work to limit the spread of malaria, river blindness and other tropical diseases.

Fifty pence from each ticket sold for this event will be donated to Devleloping World Health, a charity combating tropical infectious diseases. For more information visit the website.
