A geology-inspired exhibition that explores links between art and science is to be held at the University of Aberdeen in association with diversified energy services company Senergy for the second successive year.

The Fabric of the Land exhibition will feature the work of well established and emerging talents whose artworks focus on the theme, the Origin of Colour.

Organised by the University’s geology & petroleum geology department, artists are invited to submit works that consider the origin of colour within the environment and landscape from a geological perspective. The geology department's classrooms will then be transformed into a state-of-the-art gallery where selected artwork will be exhibited, resulting in a display of original and spectacular creative pieces including paintings,  photography, sculpture and jewellery.

The Fabric of the Land exhibition will be held in the Meston Building of Aberdeen University from 3 to 17 September. Opening times are Monday to Friday, from 1pm – 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm.

Artwork submissions will be judged by a selection panel. They include Senergy’s CSR (corporate social responsibility) director Henry Allen; sculptor Doug Cocker; Claudia Zeiske, director of Deveron Arts; Professor Ian Booth, Professor of Micro Biology and director of the Institute of Medical Sciences at University of Aberdeen; Jennifer Melville, keeper of fine art at Aberdeen Art Gallery; and Gus MacLeod, Fabric of the Land chair.
