This year's Great Debate questions is: How did the First World War affect me and my community?

The period between 2014- 2018 marks the first centenary of the First World War. This year’s question is designed to encourage young people to take time to consider how the “war to end all wars” continues to affect them today. A great opportunity to hear how young people see the significance of the First World War in their lives today. The competitors will be from schools across the north east of Scotland and the winner of this heat will go on to the UK finals to be held in the Imperial War Museum, London in March 2017.

If you would like to compete in the debate please register your school’s interest with the Historical Association on their Great Debate booking page. There is no charge for entering the competition. Members of the public are welcome to come along and hear the debate.
