An afternoon of beautiful folk songs from different regions of China, and amazing vocal works from all around the world.

**Please note that there has been a change of venue. This event will now take place in Elphinstone Hall, and NOT the Arts Lecture Theatre as previously advertised.**

The Confucius Institute is delighted to welcome the prestigious Student Choir of Nankai University for an afternoon of rich Chinese musical culture here in Aberdeen.

This event is open to all and completely free of charge.

Founded in 1995, the Student Choir of Nankai University is composed of undergraduate, postgraduate and international students. With a rich choral tradition at Nankai University dating back to the 1930s, this choir has won numerous major international choral awards, including the highest award at the Fourth International Choral Festival in 1998, three gold medals at the Third World Olympic Choral Competition in Bremen, Germany and top prizes at the First and Second National College Student Performance Festivals in China.

In 2009, the Student Choir performed on the stage of China's National Grand Theatre, representing the highest honour of national recognition in China.

In July of this year they won three gold medals and took two champion titles at the Ninth World Choir Games held in Sochi, Russia. Winning top place in the Scenic Folklore and Mixed Choirs categories, this marks the third time that the choir has placed first in the Scenic Folklore category. The previous two wins were in 2002 in Busan, South Korea and 2014 in Riga, Latvia. Their work combines Henan Opera and Northeast Song-and-Dance Duet, with Chinese martial arts, showcasing the profound nature of China's cultural heritage.
