80% of crime is committed by the 'Opportunist Thief' which implies that many crimes could be prevented. The bulk of crime on campus includes theft, theft of and from cars and theft of pedal cycles. The fact is that a few elementary precautions, which make it more difficult for the thief, may well prevent you from becoming another crime statistic.
Fortunately violent and sexual attacks on students are very rare, nevertheless, nobody should be complacent. Adopting a few sensible procedures and being aware of the dangers will help you to avoid becoming a victim. Whilst it is primarily females who most fear crime, males between the age of 18 - 24 years are most frequently affected.
Do make every effort to follow the advice given.
