Estates Health and Safety
The Estates Section manages and maintains all University property and is involved in a wide range of activities throughout the University using both staff and contractors. It is important that Estates Section staff and contractors do as much as they can to avoid causing injury to staff, students and members of the wider community. Throughout the Estates Section, health and safety is a line management responsibility and individual members of staff are required to take responsibility for the activities under their control.
The Estates Section has a full time Health and Safety Co-ordinator, Mr Ian Cowe (ext: 3173, e-mail: i.cowe@abdn.ac.uk), who provides advice and support to Estates Section staff on all health and safety related matters as well as developing health and safety management systems for the activities carried out by the section.
The systems in place for managing health and safety can always be improved and staff are encouraged to contact their line manager or the Health and Safety Co-ordinator with suggestions for making current arrangements more effective.
The Estates Section also has a full time Asbestos Co-ordinator, Mr Chris Lodge (ext: 4219, e-mail: c.w.lodge@abdn.ac.uk), who provides advice and support on all matters relating to the management of asbestos in the structure and fabric of University buildings. More information can be found on the asbestos information page.
