Fraser Noble Refurbishment Project - Phase 2

Refurbishment of the west wing of the Fraser Noble Building

The first and second floors of the Fraser Noble Building west wing are about to undergo extensive internal reorganisation and refurbishment. The two upper floors of the west wing (nearest to the new library) will be out of use from 6 June 2011 to the end of February 2012. All teaching, research and IT activities have been relocated from the closed areas to elsewhere on campus. The ground floor will remain fully accessible.

The project:

The first and second floors of the west wing will be fully renovated, providing fully modernised teaching and research facilities for staff and students, including electronic research laboratory facilities, a dedicated optics laboratory, high and low density IT facilities, a common room for PGT students, and a large research centre which will offer high quality study facilities for postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

Impact on teaching and research:

It is not anticipated that the relocation will significantly affect teaching and research activity. Timetables for 2011/12 will provide the necessary information about the relocation of classes in the coming academic year.

Project information and enquiries:

  • General queries or concerns relating to the project should be addressed to Mr Bob Watson, Project Manager, Estates, tel. 2067, email: r.s.watson@abdn.ac.uk.
  • Information about the relocation of individual classes/facilities will be available from timetables and at relevant School Offices.
  • Poster boards in the Fraser Noble building will supply visual and progress information.
  • Emails will be sent to staff and students to advise of progress and potential disruptions.
