About your waste
Estates co-ordinate waste management across all campuses in accordance with national legislation, including the identification of wastes, their storage and disposal, as well as waste minimisation.
The University community plays a vital role in waste management, which is dependent upon the correct handling of wastes on a daily basis. It is the policy of the University of Aberdeen to take reasonable and practical steps to safeguard the health and safety of all its employees and students whilst at the University, protect other persons against hazards associated with waste transfer, and to protect the environment from harm.
As such waste, generated by the University, will be disposed of in accordance with the database below. Use the database below to find out what you should do with the item you no longer require. It could be reused if in working order, repaired or recycled; please consider these options before sending for disposal. The database discusses what you should do with waste produced at work and within the University environment. Different legislation applies to waste produced from domestic properties. For information on what you should do with waste items produced at home click here. (Links to wascot website)
To use the database, select the item from the drop down menu for which you wish to find information on. Once selected, guidance will be provided. If you find that you have an item that is not displayed in the drop down menu, please contact the Waste and Environmental Manager for further information. The database represents what practice is currently in place for different waste streams and will be updated should circumstances change i.e. more waste is recycled or composted.
It is important to note that you should NEVER dispose of special waste with general waste. They must be dealt with separately.
