Walking

Walking is an excellent way to build physical activity into your daily routine. It can also easily be combined with other transport modes, particularly car sharing and public transport.

“One third of all journeys remain at less than a mile, yet in the last twenty years the average distance walked in the UK has declined by 20%.” (Local Transport Strategy for Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council, 2000).

The table below will give you an indication of the time taken to walk between various university locations.  It is important to remember that the time taken will be dependant on the speed at which you walk and on other conditions such as gradient, road crossings, weather etc. These times are based on an average walking speed which is about 4 miles per hour.
