Towards zero |
Government’s role is to set the
vision, introduce policies to drive change, and give leadership to bring these changes to fruition. This first Zero Waste Plan for Scotland sets a course for the changes we need to make. It proposes long term targets of recycling 70% of all Scotland’s waste,
and only 5% of remaining waste ending up in landfill by 2025. To find out more about how Zero waste will affect Scotland, click here. |

With the increase in cycling we've been experiencing in recent years it's become obvious that more and better cycle storage is needed at the University. New storage is being installed now at Cruickshank, St. Mary's, Edward Wright and other locations across Old Aberdeen. The majority of new units will be covered Sheffield stands.

At a Theatre near you…
There are some 25 Lecture Theatres across the University. While they look, and feel, the same they are now much more energy efficient. During the day in periods when they are unoccupied this is detected by carbon dioxide sensors. These are in turn connected to controls for variable speed fans in the ventilation systems. The fan speeds are reduced, and less air goes in to the space reducing heating consumption. When occupancy resumes, the fans ramp back up to full speed. This measure is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 161 tonnes p.a.

Cycle Safety Workshop
Students gathered at the new BeCycle
community workshop on the High Street in November to hear a talk on cycle safety and share their experiences of cycling in Aberdeen. It was a great opportunity for inexperienced and veteran cyclists to share knowledge and help each other stay safer on the roads. Hi-viz 'able' slapbands and lights were handed out before the group headed out for a treasure hunt style rideout.
