Logo

The University is supporting 10:10, This is a campaign that wants organisations and indiviuals to cut their carbon emissions by 10% starting in 2010. The University has set a start date of 10/10/10 for it’s year. For energy and water use in buildings this is focussing on 10 measures the University is planning to implement, and 10 measures University staff and students can carry out themselves. When the year is complete a brief report detailing what the University has achieved will be published.

University CO2 Emissions

Energy use at the University of Aberdeen resulted in the following emissions of carbon dioxide during 2007/2008:

Fuel

Consumption, kWh

Carbon Dioxide

Electric

18,587,935

9,721

Gas

62,542,843

12,884

Oil

198,720

53

Steam

5,495,567

1,617

Total

86,825,065

24,275

To get an idea of the volume of carbon dioxide emitted one tonne of carbon dioxide would fill a balloon 10m in diameter.
