Wildlife Areas

Biodiversity sites on campus
This coming year sees the re-launching of the MacRobert Wildflower Meadow and the Wildlife Garden both located on Kings Campus, as well as the creation of a new biodiversity zone within the Cruickshank Botanic Garden.
These areas will be managed in order to protect wildlife and encourage biodiversity in an urban location.

Work is currently underway at the Wildlife Garden to develop the area, coordinated by the Conservation Society and supported by the AUSA Environment & Ethics Committee. Some plans are to install some benches and include a path through a meadow section and around the wooded area of the Garden. A 3 year management plan has been produced for the site, with works to develop the site expected to be carried out until then.

The MacRobert Wildflower Meadow will soon be actively managed once again, after it's inception a couple of years previously. Teaching staff from MacRobert are set to develop the meadow, as part of a hands-on project in conjunction with the Natural History Centre.

Wildlife Garden off Meston Walk

The Cruickshank Botanic Garden will also shortly be getting to work on starting to manage a piece of land in the Arboretum as a biodiversity zone.

You can take a walk on the wild side with a University leaflet that provides information on the natural history of the campus. You can pick up a copy of thsi leaflet from around campus or download a copy by clicking here.

University of Aberdeen Biodiversity Working Group
The Biodiversity Working Group here at the university will once again be meeting shortly, after the group disbanded a few years previous. The committee will integrate the various groups active in this area, including the AUSA Environment & Ethics committee, the Conservation Society, university staff from Estates, Environment Office, NESBReC, Cruickshank Botanic Gardens, and academic staff from the Plant & Soil Science department. The idea is to work towards producing a Biodiversity Action Plan for the university.
