Environmental Champions
Have you got what it takes? Are you able to become a Champion?
![]() |
The Environment Office is looking for people like you to help raise awareness of good environmental practice within the workplace and become an Environmental Champion.
What do we want from you?
We want enthusiastic people who can help assist us in raising awareness of issues such as waste minimisation, energy and water conservation, sustainable travel, biodiversity, Fairtrade and much more!
A small piece of your time...... to put up posters, flyers, volunteer on stalls, attend and possibly organise events in your own area – however much you wish to volunteer! We seek your support in helping make the University’s environmental footprint that wee bit smaller.
What’s in it for you?
- Quarterly newsletter updates
- Access to, and workshops with, other Environmental Champions
- Free invitations to environmental related events
- Free training and guidance from Environment Office personnel
- Opportunities to win prizes for you and your department
Most importantly you get a chance to have your say and influence the way the University operates. Some suggestions may even be taken forward for approval at the Environmental Forum.
If you are interested in getting involved, or have any questions please contact us.

Eco-points scheme for the environmental champions
The Environment Office has established an Eco-point scheme which encourages friendly competition among champions to be eco-active. When you undertake one of our challenges you will be awarded points which get added up and determine your position on our leaderboard. The tables below illustrate how you can go about earning points, and what you can get by scoring well on our leaderboard. To find out more about the challenges, find out what evidence you need to provide or report your completed challenge please contact the Environment Office. Points are also available in our Monthly Challenges so keep an eye out for them. The environmental champion who has earned the most points by the end of the year will also receive a bonus prize.
