Health & Safety
A separate microsite has been created to inform and give assistance to Estates staff and contractors involved in any activities managed by Estates.
In addition to the University Safety Advisors, The Estates Section has a full time Health and Safety Co-ordinator, Mr Ian Cowe (ext: 3173, e-mail: i.cowe@abdn.ac.uk), who provides advice and support to Estates Section staff on all health and safety related matters as well as developing health and safety management systems for the activities carried out by the section.
The Estates Section manages and maintains all University property activities using both University staff and contractors. It is important that Estates Section staff and contractors do as much as they can to avoid causing injury to staff, students and members of the wider community. Throughout the Estates Section, health and safety is a line management responsibility and individual members of staff are required to take responsibility for the activities under their control.
The University is committed to pursuing excellence in everything we do. That includes how we manage health and safety. Ensuring that this is a safe place for staff and students is an absolute priority. The University Health and Safety Policy sets out the management framework we use to achieve that. It specifies that it is the particular responsibility of line management, who are in a position to exercise control over their school or section's activities, to ensure that those activities are carried out safely.
