University of Aberdeen Takes you to the main page for this section

Welcome to our web site

The Estates Section forms part of the University Administration and, as a service section, our objective is to support the core business of teaching and research.

As Director of Estates I am responsible for four main teams – Maintenance, Projects, Support Services and Administration. If you are interested in knowing more about these please click on the above links.

The University of Aberdeen’s estate and buildings are wonderful assets for the University and our Community. It provides some of Aberdeen’s most attractive, specialist, high-tech, unique and historic buildings. Our Campuses provide a pleasant safe and stimulating environment to work in. Our Foresterhill Campus, which we share with the NHS Grampian, provides a teaching hospital experience over a site extending to approximately 125 acres. Our estate at King’s College has a blend of modern and ancient buildings, set off the attractive High Street of Old Aberdeen, and extends over approximately 85 acres. Following the University Merger with the Rowett Research Institute our managed estate increased with the addition of the land and buildings at Bucksburn which provides a range of research facilities which, together with the extensive farm land holding, extends to approximately 520 acres.

The University estate has experienced considerable change over recent years with the refurbishment of many facilities and the building of a number of new ones. The most recent developments include the new Aberdeen Sports Village, The Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Health Care, Ocean Laboratory 2 and the extension and refurbishment of the Fraser Noble building. The centre piece of our last development phase, the Sir Duncan Rice Library, is now open.

We are now looking to the future and to the next phase of project prioritisation and development. Already at an advanced stage is the new Rowett Institute facility on the Foresterhill campus which is scheduled for completion in 2014 and consultation has commenced with the colleges on other future requirements.

At the forefront of our operations is commitment to the environment and how we impact on it through our operations. Our Environment Office is a proactive team taking forward a range of projects and initiatives and can be found at www.abdn.ac.uk/estates/environment.

I hope you find our web pages interesting.
